ZAGREB, Dec 31, 2020 – Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said on Thursday that the post-earthquake reconstruction of Sisak-Moslavina County would most probably be covered by the law on the reconstruction of buildings in the City of Zagreb, Zagreb County and Krapina-Zagorje County that were damaged by the March 22 earthquake.
Speaking to the press after a meeting of the national council for the adoption of the euro, Plenkovic said that the law on the reconstruction of Zagreb and the two adjacent counties was a good basis for the reconstruction of Sisak-Moslavina County, which was struck by a string of devastating earthquakes on Monday and Tuesday.
He said that the 60-20-20 concept of reconstruction, with 60% of funds provided by the government, 20% by local communities and 20% by owners, was excellent.
Construction Minister Darko Horvat has been given until Monday to see which solution would be better – to extend the scope of application of the existing law or to draw up a new one.
Plenkovic said that the existing law could be amended within a day or two of Parliament reconvening.
Plenkovic announced that his HDZ party would donate HRK 1 million to the earthquake-devastated Sisak-Moslavina County, adding that the decision would be formally made at a meeting of the party’s presidency and national council later today.
The prime ministers thanked everyone, both private individuals and legal entities, for donating funds for earthquake victims. “There is great solidarity art work,” he noted.
