”International Folklore Meeting” (Međunarodni folklorni susreti) is an umbrella term for a series of folklore events that have been held over the years in Split-Dalmatia County. These events are reported by the calendar of the world organization of folklore festival CIOFF, and always take place during the month of July.
The first initiative was by KUD “Ante Zaninovic” from Kastel Kambelovac, with an organization of modest folklore evenings called “Za jubav tance igraše” 14 years ago.
A year later, “Pleter” from Dugopolje joined the folklore organization, marking their first 5 years of cultural action under the appropriate name “Ljepota u kamenu kamenitom”.
Another year later, KUD “Branimir 888˝ from Muć joined the organization with folklore evenings through the manifestation “Stara je škrinja otvorena”.
Domestic folklore groups are able to promote the cultural heritage of Central Dalmatia through performance of traditional song and dance, and members of these folklore groups allow international cooperation and participation for similar folk festivals abroad.
There are currently programs at the International folklore festival in Split-Dalmatia County performed by folklore groups from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Macedonia, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Lithuania, Serbia, France, Italy, Austria, Spain, Portugal, and Canada. Their skills in singing and performing traditional dances have even been shown to a group of shamans from the Republic of Tuva in southern Siberia in Russia.
There is no doubt that this year’s program will enrich the cultural summer offer on the coast and in the Dalmatian hinterland.

This year, the performances will be by cultural and artistic groups from Lithuania, Hungary, Czech Republic and Macedonia. Each evening will have its own special segment during the program in which the international performers will dance folklore from their given countries.
The aim of the organizers for next year is to maintain this unique international folklore event at this level in Split-Dalmatia County, attracting an even greater number of cultural and artistic groups from Central and Southeastern Europe.
