Night of Museums takes place tomorrow, January 26, 2018.
This year’s theme for the highly anticipated Night of the Museum is ‘Museums and Sport’. The Croatian Museum Society, in cooperation with numerous Croatian museums and other heritage institutions, organizes the Night of Museums on Friday, January 26, 2018, for the thirteenth time. At this year’s event, those in Sinj can visit the Sinjska Alka Museum, the Museum of the Cetina Krajina – Sinj and the Sikirica Gallery.
Here’s a look at the 2018 program at the Alkar Courtyard.

Alka Museum – a sightseeing tour accompanied by Alkars in uniforms/expert guidance
“Sport Look at the Alka” / Alka Museum
The exhibition for the Night of Museums in 2018 will look at the event from its beginnings to the most crowned Alkars, from the galloping speed to the dimension of the Alkar runway, giving visitors a look at the Sinj Alka through the prism of sports, while highlighting its competitive character.
‘Sinjske puze, klize i ostale zimske radosti’ on the 1st floor of the Alkar Court
A little walk through the past of Sinj’s winter sports. The exhibition was created in cooperation with the Cultural Art Center, the Cetina Krajina Museum, and the Alka Museum.
“What has Dalmatia given to us?” / Sikirica Gallery / Expert guidance by the author of the exhibition
The Dalmatian factories and spinning mills of yarn since its foundation in 1951 to the early 90s was the basis of economic and industrial life in the city of Sinj. With the break-up of Yugoslavia, it lost a large part of the market and closed in 2009 after the transition processes, privatization, and bankruptcy – which resulted in the reduction of employees and increasing losses.
The exhibition “What has Dalmatia given us?” shows the Dalmatian factory in the context of the cultural and industrial heritage of Sinj, the way it influenced the development of the city, and how it was part of the life of the citizens of Sinj and an important part of its collective memory.
Performance of “Sculpture Making” – by sculptor Hrvoje Dumančić / Alka Museum
Academic sculptor Hrvoje Dumančić, the author of the main “Alka Parade” at the Sinjska Alka Museum in Sinj, will host a performance on sculpture. The sculptor will model his sculpture so that the audience in the gallery will participate in the creation of it and be able to socialize with the artist. The aim of the concept is to show, in a picturesque and dynamic way, the emergence of a sculpture live in front of the audience. Visitors will also have the opportunity to see Dumančić’s sculptures that are part of the museum’s setting – this includes 10 life-size sculptures and 14 Alkar men. Unlike the usual practice when visitors are presented with a ‘serviced’ work and are unable to see the process of the art behind the closed doors of art ateliers, this concept will allow visitors to participate and observe this stage precisely – from the creation to its final form. Visitors can decide whether they want to watch the entire process of or move along with the exhibition.
