August 13, 2019 – The Assumption of Mary is forever crowned with a celebration on August 15.

On September 22, 1716, the Archbishop of Split, Stephen Cupilli, solemnly crowned the image of Mary with gold to commemorate the glorious defense of Sinj, with the inscription ‘In perpetuum coronata triumphat 1715’.

Thus, Sinj, which is home to one of the largest Mary shrines in Croatia, is always especially festive on the eve and the day of the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Faithful to their patron saint and savior, the people of Sinj and numerous pilgrims have celebrated the Blessed Virgin Mary for centuries.

Since the church is too full during the Devotion and the opening prayer of the Rosary, there are two scheduled – at 7 pm and in the morning, at 6 am. At the Vigil of Our Lady, a holy mass is celebrated in the Square of Dr. Franjo Tudjman, and the festive celebration begins at 4 am with a traditional mass. At 9 am, there will be a procession with Our Lady’s image and another solemn mass.

The endless river of believers in honor of Our Lady adorn the city streets with flower petals and the sounds of the mačkule, which accompany the image of Our Lady proudly carried on the shoulders of Alkars, Alkar boys, military and civilian authorities, members of associations, priests, monks, and nuns.

The evening mass is celebrated at 6 pm and the following day, a traditional mass is celebrated in the old town. On the first Sunday after the Feast of the Assumption, in the monastery courtyard, there is a dedication of the children to Our Lady of Sinj.
