For the third year in a row, the town of Sinj will participate in the national youth volunteer project ’72 Hours Without Compromise’.
It all began spontaneously, with the people of Sinj at SKAC St, who had the idea and executed it. The first step was to find young people ready to help, socialize and do good. It might sound like a very difficult step in today’s world, as finding someone who wants to work without a monetary allowance is not easy. Luckily, in the City of Sinj, there are young and open hearts ready serve and volunteer themselves, and they welcomed this project with joy. The project was realized by the Parish of Our Lady of Sinj, was supported by the mayor, and even by the citizens who contributed to the project with their donations.
In the first year, Sinj had 110 volunteers and 9 volunteer actions, and the second year, the number of volunteers increased to 170 and 17 volunteer actions. They cooperated with various associations, clubs and schools. The generosity and diligence of the young people involved in this project has shown that they have done their best to bring good, joy and solidarity to Sinj.
Through this project, the City of Sinj has received a new dimension. The project united young people, children, the elderly and the disabled, children with developmental difficulties, and people with different material needs.
“We all acted as a whole, from the smallest child to the oldest man. It is nice to see the city after the project, meet the smiling faces as if we all knew, and the reason for knowing it was good.”
The project results are visible throughout the city: the environment is cleaner, apartments are painted, the schools and nurseries work better, the churches are fuller, and the old and wrinkled faces have been given more wrinkles from laughter and song.
In the City of Sinj, the project did not stop at 72 hours – and after the project, the volunteers continued to assist families in need and decided to volunteer throughout the city and parish throughout the year.
“In the program ’72 Hours Without Compromise’, we achieved our goal, we are the drops of the ocean of goodness that poured out in our town. We got out of the frame of our desires and talents and did what we did not consider something we were best at, but we realized that it wasn’t about what we did, but how much we loved doing it.”
Each year the project enriches the city with new friendships, teaches young people to do something new and helps them to get to know another part of themselves. Within the project, they help others, create communion, laugh, and give and receive much more.
This year, the City of Sinj city will join the project from October 18 to 21, 2018.
