The 2nd Sinj Gliding Cup will take place from April 29-May 28, 2017.
Inland Dalmatia is an especially attractive destination for active holidays and sports tourism, so it’s no surprise that the Sinj Gliding Cup is returning this year for its 2nd edition!
Gliding is a sport known across the world which uses a heavier-than-air aircraft that flies without an engine and is supported in flight by the dynamic reaction of the air against its lifting surfaces. Gliding can last for several hours and can fly several hundred kilometers in a cross-country flight, depending on weather conditions and the skill of the pilot.
Since the gliders do not have an engine, they take off by an aero tow. Thus, a traction rope is fastened to a plane which then raises the glider to the desired height. The glider then unlatches from the plane and continues free-flying.
Gliders remain in the air similar to that of kites and paragliders, but can last longer in flight and move greater distances.
In sports competitions, glider competitors are ranked by time, speed or length of the flyover, depending on the given discipline of the competition.
Aeroklub Sinj is bringing the Sinj Gliding Cup back this year for the second edition at the Sport Airport Piket. The competition encourages the development of aviation while enabling a large number of pilots to get to know the magic of competitive flying.
The cup begins this weekend and will run through the end of May. All interested parties can apply here https://goo.gl/forms/7tPPf91AZI9Y5tKx2
