At the suggestion of the Vrgorac city, a meeting of several mayors of municipalities and cities of the Makarska Riviera, central Dalmatian islands, Pelješac peninsula and western Herzegovina took place on Thursday to join forces in presenting the importance of building the Ravča-Drvenik tunnel as a connecting road from the junction Ravče to the A1 highway and the ferry port in Drvenik to the new government, informs vecernji.ba.
The planned road would be 7,36 km long with a 5,6 km tunnel through Rilić.
Besides mayors of Vrgorac, Gradac, Hvar, Stari Grad, Korčula, Pojezerje, Podgora, Trpanj, Sućuraj, Jelsa, Orebić, Vela Luka, Lumbarda and Smokvica and Ljubuški, Čapljina, Čitluk, Gruda and Široki Brijeg from Bosnia and Herzegovina, there were the Split Dalmatia Prefect Zlatko Ževrnja and Dubrovnik-Neretva deputy Prefect Davorko Obuljen.
The President of the Vrgorac City Council Ante Pranić presented the project of the connecting road from Ravče to the highway up to Drvenik at D8 – the main coastal road and the agreements signed by the Croatian Roads and Croatian Highways about construction of this road.
He said, that all required paperwork is done (environmental impact study, preliminary design project, main project, geodetic survey, parcelling surveys and geotechnical investigations), ťhe land acquired and the localisation permit obtained, but the building of the road has not yet started. During the mandate of the previous government, the A1-D8 connection was included in the program of construction and maintenance of public roads for the period of 2013-2016 and based on that program, there was 10.825.000 kn planned for the project documentation.
At the meeting in Vrgorac, the gathered mayors asked the new government to support the initiative when creating the new program of construction and maintenance of public roads for the next period and to start building the road in accordance to the financial possibilities.
17 mayors and Split-Dalmatia county Prefect signed a memorandum on cooperation in construction of the connecting road from Ravče to Drvenik. The Dubrovnik-Neretva county deputy Prefect refused to sign the memorandum as according to him, the priority of the county is the construction of the Pelješac bridge. As previously announced, another meeting should take place in Sućuraj on Hvar in a few months.
