The World’s Best Uštipak: Vrlika Has Named a Winner!

Last Friday, August 12, the 3rd World Championships of “uštipak” were held in Vrlika. In an effort to find the world’s best, 8 teams competed in making the best of this traditional fry bread.  

The 8 teams that competed were Uštipkarice (Boja Režić and Zdravka Plazonić), Ćurkuše (Marina Djaković and Marijana Gutić), Oluja (Ana Samardžić and Mirjana Vicić), Latice (Mara and Martina Turudić), Bajani (Petar and Mario Bajan), Naslon (Branko Bajan and Boško Radić), Udruga žena (Marija Uzun and Dragica Maras) and Rivince (Marija and Ana Blažević).

 

In the abundance of fry breads, the jury consisted of Marinka Vuletić, Blaženka Režić and Marija Ćorić, each picking their 3 best which stood out from the rest.

 

The fry breads were evaluated through 5 categories (form, appearance/color, fat, flavor and originality).

 

This year, the most successful were:

1st: ĆURKUŠE (Marina Djaković and Marijana Gutić)

2nd: LATICE (Mara and Martina Turudić)

3rd:  UDRUGA ŽENA (Marija Uzun and Dragica Maras)
