The shuttle bus operated by the Airport itself transports passengers from the airport to the Pula bus station, and the ticket price is 30 kuna. The shuttle goes to and from the town in time to board the flights currently operating or after a flight has landed.

There is only one licensed official taxi company at the airport, which helps to make decisions a little easier. You can find the taxis outside the terminal next to the bus stop. Prices into the city are in the region of 120 kuna, but check the company website, as they sometimes offer sizable discounts for online booking.

Driving to Pula Airport

The airport is located about 8.5 kilometres north-east of Pula, and driving time is about 15 minutes. If you are coming from Zagreb or the south, follow signs to Pula, and then turn left before you come to the city.

History of the airport in Pula

Pula’s airport dates back to 1911, when some pilots and engineers from the Austro-Hungarian army took to the air from a grass field. This is the present location of the airport.

Civilian flights began in 1924 with a seaplane service. Seaplanes reappeared briefly to Pula in 2015, but European Coastal Airlines stopped flights in 2016.

The current airport was turned over to civilian use back in 1967, and it proved very successful. 1987 saw Pula handle over 700,000 passengers, a number that would not be bettered until 2018.

As elsewhere in Croatia, the war years had a catastrophic effect on passenger numbers. There was also a change in the type of tourist using the airport after 1999. British and Western tourists became less prominent than those from Eastern Europe and countries of the Soviet Union. So much so, in fact, that Russians made up 40% of passengers by EU entry in 2013. As shown above, the new Russian visa requirements have resulted in a return to more British and Western tourists to Pula.
