The largest of the Elaphiti islands, Sipan is famous for its numerous palm tree species, as well as for the olives, figs, vineyards, oranges, citrus groves, almond-trees and carob-trees.
There are two ports on the island, Suđurađ (San Giorgio) in the east, and Šipanska Luka (Porto Gippana) in the west that are connected by 5 km long road. Needless to say that renting a bike here offers an unforgettable experience.
Having become part of Republic of Dubrovnik in 1426, it quickly gained reputation of a tranquil getaway for the noble families from the Old Town. Ruins of archbishop’s palaces, late-Gothic Rector’s Palace, and many family palaces, such as Skocibuha summer palace, provide visitors with a testimony of the former glorious days of Republic of Dubrovnik.
