Art exhibition in the House of Marin Držić proves the playwright remains modern to this day
Even though Dubrovnik takes good care of its art scene throughout the year, it seems they amp it up in the summer season. Mutiple exhibitions and events are going on all over town, and the latest announced opening is related to the core of Dubrovnik’s culture – Marin Držić.
The House of Marin Držić is to host an exhibition of Dubrovnik artist Mišo Barićević called ‘You’re not who you are when you’re with Držić!’ (Kad si s Držićem, nisi svoj!), featuring over 50 works that touch on some of the topics the great playwright was known for. Držić often wrote about political and philosophical ideas of his age, immortalising the spirit of renaissance Dubrovnik; Baričević built on that legacy and through his work showed that Držić’s oeuvre remains modern and ‘fresh’ even after multiple centuries.
Mišo Baričević was born in Dubrovnik in 1951 and studied art under local masters such as Mijatović, Masle, Trostmann and Škerlj. The exhibition is curated by art historian Andrea Batinić Ivanković and opens on Saturday, June 10 at 8 PM!
