A forest fire which broke out in the hills of Konavle this afternoon is being closely monitored and is now under control.
The rugged, pine-covered Konavle region was the unfortunate host to a significant forest fire today.
The area just above Pridvorje, which is a small settlement in the heart of the picturesque, wine-making Konavle countryside was alarmingly engulfed in heavy smoke as the rich undergrowth burned in an out-of-control blaze in the afternoon hours of the 30th of March 2017.
The blaze, which unfortunately broke out in a geographically awkward area full of dense pine trees and dry shubbery, was quickly attended to by 40 firefighters from Konavle, Cilipi, the Parish of Dubrovnik and Dubrovnik, with the added help of an hour-long assistance from one canadair.
As we understand it, the exact cause of the fire remains as yet unknown, but it is widely known that the Dubrovnik-Neretva County has had to endure numerous very serious forest fires in recent years, and a plea to residents to take extra care when burning weeds and other fauna has been issued by the County fire commander Stjepan Simovic.
