For the fifth time, Vela Luka will host a MTB recreational marathon, starting at the centre of the town, with two courses, one 58 km long, the other, easier one 28.
Vela Luka Outdoors festival is coming back, this year it brings you a bicycle race, a trail race, a climbing school for the young participants, a zip-line will be set up in Vela Luka, there will be kayaking lessons and a concert by Ljuta Kuća, a country&western band from Sinj!
The bicycle race will be held on September 8th (Saturday), and you can choose if you want to compete in the more difficult XCM race, 54 km long, with 1000 meters elevation difference, or a shorter XCP race, 28 km long, with somewhat less of a elevation (although, still respectable 800 meters).
There will be several categories, category for participants younger then 18 years of age exists only in XCP race (as underage riders are not allowed to participate in the more difficult race), than there is the 18-40 category, 40-50, 50+ category and a separate category for women, who all compete against each other, regardless of their age. Both races will mostly be on the macadam road.
The start for both categories will be just after 3 pm on Saturday, as the riders on the longer race will go first, and then the shorter racers after them. Time limit for both races will be at 7 pm. The fastest racers in both male and female categories will be getting cash prizes for the longer race, while in the shorter race medals will be awarded.
The fees for the race are 80 kn (shorter) or 100 kn (longer) if you apply on time, or 120 kunas for either race if you apply on the race day. For that fee you will get a starting package by the sponsors, which includes a cycling shirt, a meal after the race with a beverage, a concert which will be held after the race and a ticket to go to Proizd island on Sunday! Jadrolinija also supports the race, so all participants will be able to get a 50% discount for ferries for themselves and their bikes.
All participants must wear a helmet during the race (obviously).
The bike race won’t be the only event taking place in Vela Luka on the day, as at 5 pm a trail race will also be held. Also in two categories and lengths (22 km and 10km), it will start near Vela Spila and the finish will also be at the Riva in Vela Luka. The fee for both races is 80 kuna.
