KORČULA BAROQUE FESTIVAL
The Korkyra Baroque Festival was founded in 2012 as a way to promote local and international musical heritage with incredible performances of classical musicians. The festival showcases some of the world’s best Baroque music ensembles and soloists.
The festival takes places in Korčula’s architectural gems, with performances enjoyed in the town’s St. Mark’s Cathedral, St. Nicholas Church, and even in the courtyard of the Arneri Palace. One performance each year usually also takes the audience to the Badija Island, where usually it is held in the monastery.
Though not just about the music, the festival also highlights Korčula’s thriving culture over its ten days. Therefore, it is not unusual for the festival to open with one of Korčula’s most impressive attractions – the ‘moreška’ – a traditional sword dance performed on the island since the 17th century.
The Korkyra Baroque Festival usually takes place in September and is a not to miss event in the town.
