The essence of the Dalmatian way of living can truly be felt in konobas, small stone cellars originally used to store wine. Here time can be spent enjoying the mineral wines of the island, but also homemade food, from bite-size snacks to grilled fish and meat dishes. A place for people to gather, discuss, quarrel and be merry, sometimes all at the same time. Proper and larger scale wine production has left these clandestine pits of pleasure, but some are still in operation for domestic wine needs.
