All Saints’ Day, also known as the Feast of All Saints, All Hallows Day, or Day of the Dead is celebrated each year on November 1st.

A Christian holiday that honors all saints – those that are known and unknown – All Saints’ Day is widely celebrated across Croatia, and if you’ve been in Split over the last few days, the chrysanthemums are no coincidence.

On November 1st, and typically beginning a few days before, Croatians across the country flock to flower sellers lined along local streets to prepare for the holiday. To honor those that have left us, bouquets of colorful blossoms and candles are brought to crowded cemeteries around the country.

A tribute to those that have passed, Croatia’s tradition of the holiday is fascinating to observe.

Whether you choose to visit a cemetery today or wish to examine how quickly pompon packs of flowers are plucked from Pazar, there are a few things you should know about the holiday in Split.

As expected there will be many businesses closed today – it is a national holiday, after all. While you can certainly anticipate a healthy handful of restaurants and cafe bars to be closed, you might have the best luck parading the center of town if you find yourself hungry or desperate.

For those of you looking to do shopping today, City Center One will observe the holiday and will not be open. Tomorrow will work as usual from 9 am to 9 pm.

The Mall of Split will also be closed for the feast, while the Joker shopping center will partially observe the holiday. All of the shops at Joker, except for ”Tommy”, “McDonald’s” and “Cinestar”, will be closed.

If you’re looking to buy flowers for your cemetery visit, do not fret. While you are very aware Pazar will have plenty through the afternoon, you can also purchase flowers at the cemetery you choose to visit today.

If you need help getting around today, Radio Taxi Split will be free of charge from 10:00 to 12:00 to transport citizens to the city cemeteries. The goal is to make this holiday suitable for everyone and to especially invite the older families with young children to take advantage of the opportunity.

The free ride will be given only by calling the following phone number: 021 47 37 37. After this period, prices will return to normal.

Enjoy the free day!
