Is it unofficially burger week in Split?
If you’ve visited Split in the last couple of years, it’s safe to say that you’ve witnessed what I like to call a “burger revolution”. Remember when it wasn’t always like this?
On my visits to Croatia just over a few years ago, burgers were definitely on Split’s radar, but exclusively available in fast food restaurants. And even so, what fast food restaurants would offer as a burger would be far from what the majority of us crave in a burger. While they were always tasty, don’t get me wrong, Croatian hamburgers were notorious for using a mixture of meats in the patty with a bun often resembling a loaf of bread. Okay if you’re hungry, but when you have a burger on your mind, this didn’t always fill the void.
When I moved to Split just over two years ago, I noticed, quite quickly, that Split had indeed caught on to the burger craze sweeping the globe. After some of the top restaurants in Split started adding proper burgers to their menus, what quickly followed were stand-alone restaurants dedicated to the greatest meal on earth.
Today, it’s hard to choose the best burger in Split, and it’s more than comforting to know that there are almost too many options when you have that insatiable craving for a juicy, greasy, and mostly cheesy patty of meat sandwiched between a chewy (preferable brioche) bun.
With burgers on my mind, a grumbling stomach, and Facebook open on my laptop, I’ve learned about a special treat those of us in Split can enjoy this week. And yes, you guessed it, this has to do with burgers.
I imagine you’re all familiar with the international trend of “food holidays” by now? If you’re not, let’s just say that these “holidays” are days dedicated to particular food items used as an excuse for overindulgence.
While there are pizza days and doughnut days, some restaurants in Split have chosen to jump on the food-holiday train this week in honor of burgers!
That said, special offers are spreading around town that would be shameful of us not to share with you.
Pecado, for example, is offering a slew of burgers at 50 HRK from October 4th – October 11th! Some of what you can enjoy includes a burger tower for 4, a pink diva burger, a veggie burger, fish burger, and burgers overkilled with cheese. Sign us up.
Another Split institution we’ve found participating in the event is Barbarosa, offering a burger, french fries, and a 0.3l Ožujsko for only 60 HRK on Thursday, October 5th to Friday, October 6th.
