Famous Croatian sculptor Kažimir Hraste has been hosted at the Meštrović Gallery since the end of July, with his exhibition ending this Sunday on August 14.
Kažimir Hraste was born on February 2, 1952 in Supetar on the island of Brač. Hraste graduated from the School of Applied Arts in Split, and later graduated in sculpture in 1978 from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, under professor Valeri Michieli.
In 1984, he completed his postgraduate studies in sculpture in Ljubljana, and received a scholarship from the Italian government – enabling him to spend a semester on professional sculpture training in Rome. One of the founders of the Art Academy in Split, today Hraste works as a professor of sculpture, even acting as Dean for one term.
He has participated in more than a hundred group exhibitions at home and abroad, and has exhibited 30 times since 1974. He is the author of numerous public monuments and sculptures.
For his work, which combines traditional experiences and modern art practices, he has received numerous national awards. He has been an active member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts since May 10, 2012.
Hraste’s exhibition in Meštrović Gallery opened on July 27 and will end this Sunday, August 14 as part of the “Split Cultural Summer” program.
