The Split social sector is about to be launched into the modern world with Hack4Split.
Hack4Split is a hackathon with a twist – the outcome is about giving value to the social sector, rather than for personal or private gain. Hack4Split intends to bring two worlds together – connecting non-profit organisations or individuals with a great environmental or social idea to the IT world, in order to create solutions in real-time. Successful project applications will be matched to a team of designers, developers & creatives; they will meet and discuss the idea during a kick-off event and then have 30 hours to come up with a solution.
The Hack4Split initiative is a collaborative effort by StartUp.HR, Studentski Poduzetnički Inkubator (SPI), WIP Co-working Space, Amosfera Coworking, Klub Madih Split (KMS), 3PSplit and CEDRA Split. After seeing similar initiatives around the world, including Zagreb, this group of socially-minded entrepreneurs decided it was high time to bring the concept of collaborations and IT solutions to Split.
“People always say that Split is behind the rest of the world in terms of digitalization, so we want to change this perception, it is time to move forward. This is exactly the reason our tag-line is: #digitalizacijapočinjesad or #digitalizationstartsnow”
The winners and participants will be awarded prizes based on their final solutions, as well as having contributed to growth of the social sector through technology.
“Our larger hope is that by the end of the event we will have several working IT solutions and better yet, new partnerships between the sectors moving forward.”
The idea of collaboration is an ongoing process. In the future, the partners intend to create more initiatives in this realm, for example StartUp.HR are looking to promote IT entrepreneurs locally and globally whilst KMS continue to encourage young people from all backgrounds to volunteer their time to the local community through projects like ‘Dalmatinska Val Aktivizma’.
Want to involved?
Hack4Split is calling any person or organisation that creates social or environmental value and needs an IT-solution related to their goals.
This is also a shout out to all: developers, designers, project managers, creatives, writers, photographers, changemakers… who will work together to develop the IT solution.
Considering solutions in the social sector can sometimes take months, if not years, this is an incredible opportunity to be a part of a project which will deliver real results, fast – as well as a feel-good factor which is through the roof!
