Split summer 2017, in a nutshell.
Most of you should know by now who Feđa Klarić is. And if you don’t, we’ll remind you by taking a look back at the bombshells of Split the famous photojournalist captured in the 80s.
To refresh your memory, Klarić was a photojournalist for Slobodna Dalmacija from 1971-2011, working closely alongside Split’s most-loved journalist Miljenko Smoje. In recent years, Klarić continued his photo-happy legacy at Fotoklub Split, and even acted as the club’s president. Lucky for us, we still get to enjoy the photographer’s work today.
Known for his iconic photographs of everyday life in Split and the people that make the city what it is, Klarić has once again reminded us why he is king after capturing, quite entirely, this summer’s busy season.
And what a summer it was.
Split attracted travelers from all parts of the world, becoming what seemed like the center of the Earth for weeks on end.
Tourists powered through the heat, were overly affectionate with their significant others, and paraded through Diocletian’s Palace proudly.
We witnessed Split’s newly elected mayor Andro Krstulovic Opara reading ‘Cicero’, the politically driven book about the Roman politician and lawyer in 63 BC, at popular beach club Jadran.
We witnessed an ungodly line around the corner of Fife for their discounted buffet, the prettiest garbage woman we’ve seen, and protests.
There were tattoos of legendary Hajduk footballers (and even more about Hajduk), butts, dark fire clouds that engulfed the city center, and happier times at swimming lessons taught by Croatian water polo player Anđelo Šetka, all thanks to the lens of Feđa Klarić.
Here are the unforgettable postcards of this summer by the famous Split photojournalist, as reported by Slobodna Dalmacija on September 10, 2017.
