Mediterranean Coast Day is celebrated on September 25th.
Sunday’s bicycle tour from the Split City Administration building to Strossmayer Park (Đardin), organized by the Association ’Sunce’, ended the weekend program of the Mediterranean Coast Day celebration. Among the numerous workshops held by the institutions and associations and participants of the celebration was the Split Association for Environmental Protection, whose activists, besides bicycles, provided interesting games for the youngest and workshops where children could learn interesting information about environmental protection.
The youngest visitors to the Mediterranean Coast Day celebration could thus play hopscotch, solve tasks, and overcome various obstacles in games without limits. At the end of the games, the youngest learned about sorting waste, of course.
“Children are well acquainted with new knowledge, so the selection of waste is being applied very quickly, and we need to educate them in these workshops. Along with Italy – our partner country in the interregional program – we carry out education about marine waste and its harmfulness to the plant and animal world,” said the Sunce educator, Tea Kuzmičić Rosandić.
The youngest who enjoyed Strossmayer this weekend, along with the mentorship of Sunce’s activists, painted ecological bags, and with the help of carton boxes, they could feel how fish get caught in nets. Tea Kuzmičić Rosandić explained that all the games and animations of the Sunce Association are intended for the education of children and their ecological awareness. Among the numerous activities and projects that Sunce conducts, there are places for students as well. In Split, it can also be a professional practice, so in recent years, there has been the very successful cooperation with the Faculty of Law, Economics and the University Center for Marine Studies has been realized.
This year, hundreds of competitors took part in the seventh consecutive Split bicycle tour, which drove from Banovina to Đardin, the central location for Mediterranean Coast Day events. Tihana Arapović, a collaborator and educator of Sunce, said that Europe recently marked a ‘Day without Cars’.
“The basic intention of the action is to draw the attention of citizens to the problem of car transport and to increase the public’s sensitivity to the burning problem of air pollution in large cities and offer alternative urban transport.”
After the bicycle tour, a cycling alka was held, after which there was a pub quiz at the Gallery of Fine Arts.
Those who were not able to make it to Strossmayer over the weekend can enjoy the workshops and presentations of the participating institutions and associations on Tuesday, September 25, from 14:00 to 17:00.
