On Thursday, March 8, 2018, the Romanian Consulate officially opened in Split.
March 8th, already a symbolic date as people around the world celebrate International Women’s Day, has become important for another reason – Romania has now found a home in the Dalmatian capital! Precisely, the Romanian Consulate officially opened their doors in Split on this day, to the delight of Split citizens and the 25 Romanians living and working in the Split area.
The ceremony was attended by Romanian Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Teodor Viorel Melescanu, Ambassador of Romania to Croatia Constantin Mihail Grigorie, Croatian Ambassador to Romania Davor Vidis, and Honorary Consul of Romania in Split Stjepan Roglic. Others from the local administration including Blazenko Boban of Split-Dalmatia County, Deputy Mayor of Split Jelena Hrgovic, President of the Romanian Association of Croatia loan Dumitru Moga, Director of KBC Split Ivo Juric, and head of the PU Split Slobodan Marendic, were also in attendance.

435 Romanians currently live and work inside Croatia, while 25 currently live and work in Split and the surrounding area. Additionally, there were around 100,000 Romanian tourists who enjoyed Croatia in 2017 alone – and we are confident that number will increase year after year.
