Split has received its first tourist application for sightseeing in the city – in sneakers!
Aiming to expand the tourist offer of the city by linking sports and culture through a free running tour, the Split Tourist Board presented the SightRun application, available for mobile phones with Android and iOS operating systems. The mobile application links running and sightseeing, and uses a GPS system to navigate and activate audio, which gives users interesting information about the city, reports Slobodna Dalmacija on July 24, 2018.
The first runners using the application gathered in front of the palace on Tuesday and were welcomed by Tamara Markotić from the SightRun. The runners embarked on a tour across the Riva, the West Coast, through the park-forest Marjan, Marmontova, Kralja Tomislava, to the Grgur Ninski monument, and then via Hrvojeva street to the Riva.
“They were delighted! The tour is designed to enjoy jogging along the sea and touring some of the city’s attractions. The application is downloaded to your mobile phone, and regardless of the wireless network, you can familiarize yourself with the city by running. The application is suitable for all categories of runners, from recreation to marathon, because the audio is ‘triggered’ by GPS, so your speed is not important,” explains Tamara, who designed the application together with friends Hrvoje Horvat, Ivan Videk and Sandra Bortek.
The designers have participated in marathons and half-marathons themselves and were convinced that there were many foreign competitors and amateurs at big races. Runners already use mobile applications, but usually, those applications only record training data, so why not link sports and tourism instead?
The Split tour is available in Croatian and English, is about five and a half kilometers long and includes the most important city attractions. During the tour, the user will find information about Diocletian’s palace, Lazareti, Marmontova street, and the city’s famous people, but also learn about ‘fjaka’ and ‘bura’, where they can buy fish and more.
