Split Pride returns this year on June 24, 2017.
From the Split Pride Facebook event, the excerpt reads:
“The time has come to announce this year’s Split Pride, which will take place under the slogan ‘Our Colorful Story’.
The purpose of Pride 2017 is to highlight all of the problems the LGBTIQ community faces in Split every day. The problems that surround the LGBTIQ community in Split and Croatia are difficult and painful. They represent the object of everyday struggles and fear. For our fellow citizens, we wish, therefore, to tell our story. We want it to be known, loud and clear, just how hard it is to be a gay person in Split.
Nevertheless, democracy includes the freedom of all individuals and social groups. Differences and freedoms enrich our society. The LGBTIQ community in Split is active and is rich in specifics and differences.
The Pride 2017 program, therefore, also covers cultural and artistic activities, workshops, and events that we want to present to the various elements of our subculture.
We hope this project will illuminate and bring our struggles, fears and values within the community closer together. We hope that Split will listen to our story.”
