Nema Labavo, FIDO Music Weekend, and Ego Free Festival are all hitting Split in April.
With the busy summer festival season quickly approaching, today we take a look at three urban festivals hitting Split’s alternative core this preseason.
Nema Labavo – Street Art Festival
This coming extended Easter weekend at Judino Drvo, a day and night program awaits, featuring a variety of programs such as exhibitions, live mural drawings, and music events by day and night. Organized by KUU Romb, Judino Drvo has opened their space and energy to create another remarkable event in this city – Nema Labavo.
The opening ceremony of the festival will begin on March 31st and begins with the exhibitiom “Parazite Live” and street action by the well-known artist Saša Pocnić. The opening evening will be accompanied by a packed music program. At this exhibition, Pocnić will offer a retrospective of street art in Split over the last 40 years. Some of the work on display does not exist today, as well as some of the authors, but the archives will offer a cross-section of the development and art in the city of Split. In the afternoon hours of the festival, cartoonists will paint the walls around Judino Drvo, thereby revitalizing a neglected part of the town.

Ego Free Festival
After the first two editions of the festival delighted all visitors to the newly refurbished Turkish Tower, the third edition of Ego Free Festival is booked for April 27 to 29. This year’s festival boasts three days, 3 stages, and even a program for the littlest ones in attendance.
The novelty of this year’s festival release is the smaller, more mature stage (think a chill, hippie zone) that will be located on a large meadow, conceived as a picnic zone with blankets and hammocks, dogs, and children. The DJ program will be based exclusively on the sounds of the 70s, which will be a treat for the many older visitors looking to remember their youth. There will also be warm soup, fritule and tasty meals on offer.
Visitors will be able to choose from a variety of workshops (yoga house, juggling, face painting, youth games, and more) organized by various associations around the city. There will also be a fair of handicrafts where visitors will be able to buy original products crafted by some twenty artists from Split.
Ego Free Facebook
The festival is organized by the Split collective Underground Control and is of a humanitarian character. Together with the MoSt association, which will actively participate in the workshops and games, proceeds from the festival will go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Association “Tako mala tako moćna” in Split to equip the stem cell transplant center at KBC Split.

19:00: Sekou Kouyate (Guinea) is a highly-acclaimed virtuoso of traditional instruments – especially choir, singing and composing Combining wah-wah pedals, rapid reactions, experimental distortion, rock, and African pop music with jazz excursions, Sekou Kouyate remains faithful to the beauty and simplicity of African culture. Kouyate brings music from a place that stifles the stiff views of dance as an important part of the concert performance, which is so often seen throughout the modern world. Sekou Kouyate is rightly considered to be a musical genius, and one of the most exciting products to have come out of the African music scene for the last decade
