A little bit of rain couldn’t stop Split from celebrating their patron saint!
Now that the Sveti Duje manifestation “Sudamja” has come to an end, we wake up on Monday morning with a smile, heaps of memories, and most likely a bit of a hangover – all signs of a celebration done right.
While the weather couldn’t quite seem to make up its mind yesterday, everyone in Split knew exactly where they wanted to be and what they wanted to be doing, making for a stellar Sv. Duje soiree.
Thousands of Split citizens and guests gathered in the city center to observe the event that happens just once a year. Here’s a look at how Split celebrated their patron saint, Sv. Duje, on May 7, 2017.
The morning began around 10 am with a procession from Peristyle to mass on the Riva.
After mass, everyone headed to the fish market to enjoy orzo and meat.
The Riva was full!
The Legends of Oxford, Cambridge, and Split International Sveti Duje rowing regatta kicks off! Andrej Plenković was even at the celebration with his entourage. You can read more about the event here.
Crowds gather at Peristyle after the regatta.
Fireworks under umbrellas…
Marjan Ban & Diktatori close the concert part of the event and had everyone dancing under their umbrellas.
