One would say that the patrons of Split are well versed in all things art. We are lucky enough to live within the palace walls of Diocletian, with rich history and ancient architecture encircling our day to day lives. In addition to the many museums and fine art galleries we have within the city, we have also been hit with a stroke of luck when it comes to the many art galleries that fill the alley ways of the palace. Here are some of the best galleries to visit in Split, and if you’re lucky, you may even leave with some art.
Jaman: Split artist Danijel Jaman, a Dean’s price of Art Academy award winner in 1998, paints vibrant and colorful original paintings. His works represent different scenes from the Mediterranean to sail boats and many world city landmarks. Always eye catching, Jaman’s artwork can be found at his gallery located at Šubićeva 3. You can also find his work online here.

Jakšić Gallery: Following the opening of their gallery on Brač in 2008, the family run Jakšić gallery (from Donji Humac on Brač), decided to open an exhibition space in Split 6 years later. The owner and father, Dražen, is a known stonemasonry, the mother Ida, a fashion designer, their son Lovre, an academic sculptor and their daughter Dina has a doctoral degree in arts. Other than a being a family completely involved in the arts, another interesting aspect is that even their ancestors were artists, creating the first stonemasonry workshop 112 years ago in 1903. Their gallery contains unique silver jewelry created by Ida, sculptures using white Brač stone by Lovre and oil paintings by Dina. You can find the Jakšić Gallery at Bribirska 10.
