“Roko, Roko, tatino oko” is a musical for children created by young Split copyright duo Nela Bujas Luketic and Jelena Bosančić, produced by the Music School Josip Hatze. The performance involves 70-odd children who sing, act and dance, and for the first time in Croatia, will be n front of an orchestra composed entirely of teenagers.

“Roko, Roko tatino oko” is a story about Roko, a 10 year old boy who creates a mythical and magical world he wishes to always live in, until reality sets in.

Slobodna Dalmacija reports that “Roko, Roko tatino oko” was based on the initial ideas of Nele Bujas Luketić, professor of theoretical subjects in the Music School Josip Hatze, who composed the music and lyrics of the songs. The story was adapted by Jelena Bosančić, an academic actress, who has expanded the plot and characters by directing and choreographing the musical. Video projections and animations are done by Darko Škrobonja, Ivan Radović, Dragan Kovačević and Antea Ratković.

The choir and orchestra are composed of students from the Music School Josip Hatze with the help of conductor Jure Bučević.

Vesna Alebić, director of the Music School Josip Hatze, pointed out that on this project, support was provided by representatives of the Croatian National Theatre in Split (HNK Split) – not the first time that the two institutions have worked together.

“HNK Split recognized the potential of this project, so far unseen, that in Split will contribute to the development of the cultural scene of the city, but also the Split-Dalmatia County. I am grateful that they gave us full support on this project as well as on many others so far,” concluded Vesna Alebić.

The premiere of the musical will be held this evening, October 7th beginning at 20h, followed by the two revival performances on October 10 and 11 at 19.30.
