Salsa in Split: the Biggest New Year Dance Celebration in Europe

With this glorious autumn weather showing no sign of abating, the swimming season in Split will seemingly never stop, but it would be crazy to imagine that people would be on the beach in Split in bikinis over New Year, wouldn’t it?

Apparently not, as one of the bigger New Year attractions to the Dalmatian capital to welcome in the new year is a major international salsa dance festival, complete with bikini salsa dancing on the beach.

When I started Total Split last year I was curious to learn what kind of New Year’s events are on offer in Split, and I was more than a little surprised to learn that what is billed as “the biggest New Year’s dancing celebration in Europe” is taking place in Split. With some of it in bikinis on the beach. Madness!

Salsa Silvester 2014 is a serious event, and the extremely impressive website – complete with Facebook pages for English, Croatian, Austrian and Slovakian groups, as well as event pages in Bosnian, Hungarian and German – points to a well-organised international event, which even has bus transportation from Zagreb for those who find better flight options to the Croatian capital out of season.

There are some great pictures from last year’s event (all these taken from the website gallery), and the basic info about the event is as follows:

– The biggest NYE dancing event in Europe, carefully planned to satisfy all music tastes – 5 dancer floors and one floor for your friends – non dancers and kids floor :). We made few smaller floors, so dancers would have more intimate atmosphere and their favorite DJ.

– The most beautiful beginning of the New Year: at the beach party in warm city of Split in Croatia (20C last year so we hope again!)
