She had a map prepared, with cities she will be going through and was looking forward to the bike trip. As it turned out, she, an inexperienced cyclist was only able to do a few kilometres per day (of course!!) before she fell of the bike totally exhausted in the evening.
After the first day – still in Italy, new plans needed to be done and she successfully travelled by train (with the bike) most of the route, stopping in some of the cities she planned. It wasn´t always easy to find a suitable train to transport the bike too, but with a dose of luck and some convincing of railways staff, she managed to arrive in Split after the first week and enjoyed the other week with us on Hvar.
She later told me how this experience made her appreciate cars – “It is only when you are sitting on a bike for the whole day and you see a road sign that says “IKEA 10 min” and after an hour, there is another one saying “IKEA 5 min”, you realize how a car can be great!!”
Anyway, if you find yourself travelling with a bike through Croatia these days, according to the www.h-alter.org website there is a special promotion going on until Tuesday (September 22, 2015) at the Croatian Railways:
So, travel for half the price and take the bicycle for free until Tuesday. Check out which trains can transport bicycles here.
