A Video of the Lavender Harvest in the 70s

An interesting short documentary from the 70s made by the Croatian National Television (HRT) informing about lavender harvest on Hvar. Although the video is in Croatian, it is very interesting to see how those lavender fields looked like back then and how the lavender was transferred and processed.

From the HRT website:

“Farmers on Hvar had their problems, even decades ago. Owners of lavender fields could not live just out of selling their produce, but they did not give up farming and the traditional island´s plants.”

More people turning to tourism and slowly leaving farming and lavender fields completely in those past decades. Will there be a time to go back? Will it ever be Hvar – the lavender island again?

Tourism is much stronger today, but there are people turning to farming again.

Time will tell..
