Although Zagreb is, compared to other cities of its size around the world, still relatively low in the number of violent crimes, it seems like sometimes even we get to witness the scenes that could find their place in any B-production Hollywood action movie.
So, after last week’s armed robbery prevented by a brave civilianby a brave civilian who fought the robbers, which took place in a Hrvatska pošta post-office in the street named after a brave civilian who died doing exactly the same thing during an armed robbery in a bank nearby more than 10 years ago, this week we woke up to similar news.
This Monday morning, just before 8 am, in Ulica Grada Gospića, in the eastern Zagreb neighbourhood of Žitnjak, three masked robbers stopped and robbed the delivery vehicle, transporting the money. The security guards handling the money delivery were threatened with firearms, as one of the robbers had a handgun while the other two were packing long guns. But, their success lasted very briefly, as they were followed by police, and they managed to catch them after a brief chase in the vicinity of where the robbery took place. All robbers are currently in custody, no-one got hurt, so we can safely chalk this up as another victory for the good guys in Zagreb, fighting against crime!
