Design Centre Zagreb has partnered with Zagreb Tourist Board and announced an interesting call for tenders with an aim of creating a unique Zagreb souvenir.
Piece of Zagreb Project wants to find new ways of thinking and creating authentic Zagreb souvenirs through an interdisciplinary approach by cooperation between applied artists, craftspeople, and everyone involved in the process of making material culture.
Another component of this project is creating the first systematic collection of Zagreb souvenirs that will continually grow with future calls for tenders. Their communicative, symbolic and identity quality will make the souvenirs suitable for everyday use, which will promote cultural heritage and local values.
When it comes to organization part, the project will bring together experts from various fields – tourism, history, cultural anthropology, marketing, communication studies and thus strengthen cooperation among different areas and contribute to the already present interdisciplinary nature of design.
This fresh new approach to tourist promotion will also make Zagreb more visible as an European destination, open new communication channels and put more focus on authentic material and spiritual culture.
Creative individuals and associations are invited to create a unique Zagreb souvenir while having in mind the following questions:
What does the souvenir represent? What does it remind you of? What stories and messages does it convey? What context does it appear in? What is its target audience? What values does it include? In what way does its context manifest? What kind of aesthetics is it characterised by? Can it be produced locally, economically and sustainably? And finally – does it have lasting value?
Application deadline is May 5, 2017 and you can apply here.
The winners will be announced on May 11 and the prizes are 15,000, 12,000 and 9,000 HRK for first, second and third place, respectively.
