Dino Dvornik Statue to Be Added to Beertija’s Rock’n’Roll Park

Total Croatia News

Dino Dvornik will be the first Croatian musician whose statue will be added to Beertija’s Rock’n’Roll park.

Beertija, a bar famous for its great selection of beer and a Rock’n’Roll park in its yard, is adding Dino Dvornik’s statue to their park on Friday, Muzika.hr reports on September 27, 2017.

Dino will be the first Croatian musician whose statue will join the statues of Lemmy Kilmister, the Ramones, Joe Strummer, John Lennon, Nick Cave, Amy Winehouse, Jimmy Hendrix, Iggy Pop, and David Bowie at the park located at Hatzova Street in Zagreb’s Downtown.

The author of the sculpture is Tomislav Heršak, a sculptor from Zagreb.

Dino Dvornik, the Croatian king of funk, was a singer and songwriter from Split. He and his brother Dean founded Kineski zid in the early 1980s, and they released the first ever funk album in Yugoslavia. He was a talented musician who also did acting (his father, Boris Dvornik, was a famous actor), and he was known for his eccentric onstage persona and lively performances, as well as great lyrics. He was a perfectionist dedicated to music and he won four Porin awards during his lifetime, and eight posthumously.

He died in 2008, having overdosed on Hepatitis C tablets and is buried at Mirogoj.

The statue will be installed on Friday, followed by an “Udri jače manijače” party at 8 p.m. Entrance is free.
