An exhibition titled “Anamnesis: Medical History in the Ancient World” (Anamneza: Povijest bolesti u antičkom svijetu) is currently on display in the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb. The title is a clever play on words, as povijest bolesti translates both to medical history and the history of illness, the latter literally being showcased on museum walls.
The exhibition provides valuable insight into the history of medicine by presenting us with a collection of ancient Roman medical and pharmaceutical equipment originating from Sisak. Apart from the tools belonging to one the largest collections of its kind in Europe, the exhibits include a medicinal garden, an operating table, human organ anatomy models and educational posters.
As this year also marks the 100th anniversary of the University of Zagreb School of Medicine, the museum decided to collaborate with professionals from multiple scientific institutions, including the School of Public Health Andrija Štampar and the Croatian Academy of Arts and Sciences. The result is a rich program of events, lectures and workshops on various topics related to the history of medicine.
The exhibition is opened until June 14th 2017. For more information on the program, tickets and opening hours, click here.
