The adorable pup is ten days old
Zagreb ZOO got its youngest inhabitant ten days ago – a California sea lion pup was born on June 19.
The pup is under a 24-hour supervision and the happy family can currently be seen from a distance in order to reduce the stress for the mum and the pup. The pup’s gender and name remain unknown, but what we do know is that the pup is happy being cared for by his mum and it will soon learn how to swim.
The mum, Edith, came to the ZOO from the Netherlands in 2004, and the dad, Zagi, moved here from Germany back in 1994.
Jutarnji reports that Edith already had four pups – in 2007, 2008, 2010, and 2012. She rejected her first pup, so he was raised by zookeepers, but she accepted the other three pups. Zookeepers are hoping that it will be the same with her new pup. One of the reasons that the pup’s gender remains unknown is the fact that the mum might reject it if she smells unknown smells on it and if there are too many disturbances.
Fingers crossed that everything goes according to plan so we can visit the adorable new ZOO member as soon as possible!
