Russian Delicacies

Total Croatia News

Another great place for lovers of international specialities – Ruske delicije.

You’ve probably seen and passed by a Russian nesting doll in Vlaška a couple of times, bit did you know that it points to the location of a Russian delicacies store?

The owner, Anastasija Knežević, was 11 when she moved from Siberia to Zagorje. It was difficult to adapt to the new environment at first and so she couldn’t wait to go to university to Zagreb, where she graduated Finance and Marketing, and where she now lives with her husband and two children.

Even though she didn’t like what she saw when she went back to Siberia 10 years ago (she says that it’s not the same Russia she remembers), she still decided to open her store out of nostalgia and because she wants Croatians to be able to get to know the real tastes of Russia.
Anastasija imports most of the delicacies that you see in the store from Germany, where there is a community of over 5 million Russians, and some of them produce their own goods.

The most popular items are the cold smoked fish specialities like mackerel, sturgeon and herring, as well as cod liver, sulguni cheese from Georgia, caviar and halva.
There are also various types of vodka, champagne and beer, Večernji list reports.

In addition to food and drinks, you can find Natura Siberica cosmetics and jewellery.

You won’t have any difficulties locating the store – it’s right in the centre, in a side alley in Vlaška, with a big yellow Matryoshka doll in front of the store to greet you.

You can also buy these yummy delicacies from your own home, so visit their online shop here and Facebook page here.
