After presenting you with spécialités françaises a few days ago, it’s time to go east on our food adventure and tell you a little something about Boršč, representing the culinary colours of Ukraine in Zagreb since September 2016.

The store was named after Boršč (Borscht), one of the most traditional and recognizable eastern European dishes, usually made using meat stock, sautéed vegetables, and fermented beetroot juice.

Boršč

Originally from Ukraine, the shop owners are equally in love with Croatia and its food and people, so they wanted to enable their Croatian friends to try all the delicious food and drinks that they love so much, like special candy, ice-cream, condensed milk, Odessa sparkling wine, beet horseradish, and various other sweet and salty delicacies Ukraine has to offer. The owners, Demian and Olja, wanted to pay homage to all the tastes of their childhood and this is why they’ve included Ukraine’s neighbouring countries’ products as well, so you’ll find products from Georgia and Moldova.

They intend to use the store as a platform where people can get to know more about Ukraine, so artwork and souvenirs by Ukrainian artists are also represented, there are workshops and gatherings, and their website includes Ukrainian recipes.
