Award-winning startup idea developed by four runners, SightRun mobile app for tourist running, will soon be presented to the public.
Packing for a trip when you’re a runner means that a pair of running shoes will also be packed as well. Runners don’t give up their routine easily and every time they visit a new city, the first thing they do is look up where it’s safe and pleasant to run. Even though they would like to get to know the city as well, running and following the map doesn’t go hand in hand. A pleasant and relaxing activity such as running can easily turn into a stressful event, filled with fear that you will get lost or miss an appointment.
Tamara Markotić, Hrvoje Horvat, Ivan Videk and Sandra Bortek are four friends who run together and who got a chance to present their idea, get the jury’s attention and win the Startup Factory Zagreb contest last year. The app also made it to the finals of Zagreb Connect International Startup Conference in 2016 and won the pitch competition at Women Invest (Women in Adria 2017). The team also started offering running tours in Zagreb last year, called RunZagreb. Their tours have complemented the tourist offer of Zagreb (and Croatia) and presented Zagreb as a running destination.
They are thrilled that their app will soon be launched.
SightRun is a mobile app which enables runners to run carefreely and comfortably even when they’re visiting another country or place. The app has audio running tours which combine running tours with tourist sightseeing, allowing runners to run while getting to know new places.
“After you’ve downloaded the selected tour on your phone, you put in your earphones and press play. After that, the app will take you on a tour around the city, working offline,” Tamara Markotić says.
“Not only does SightRun help runners get to know a new destination, but it presents the destination as being ‘Runner Friendly’ as well. Tourist running is a new tourist product in Croatia and it’s aimed at foreign runners visiting Zagreb, but also locals who want to experience their city in a completely new way,” Sandra Bortek added.
Android app available in June
Runners who love running on their own, those who don’t have time for classic tours or those who want to get to know their city in a new way will have a chance to download the first version of SightRun mobile app for Android phones in June. The tours will be available in Croatian and English. The first city with available tours will be Zagreb and other Croatian cities will follow soon.
