The Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb (MSU) is following its tradition of opening up the rooftop to the visitors when summer rolls around: on Saturday 10 June, the fourth edition of ‘Summer in MSU’ will officially kick off with a live show of the Slovenian punk band Pankrti.
This creative entertainment programme is uniting music, cinema and contemporary art for a whole month of events and performances. A week after Pankrti, the band Jonathan from Rijeka is coming to play at MSU as part of a promotion tour for their new album ‘To Love’; Kandžija, the popular rapper from Osijek, is performing on the last Saturday in June. July is reserved for the Montegenrin Rambo Amadeus, a long-standing favourite in the region, as well as for the Croatian band Detour who’s celebrating their 10th anniversary with a show featuring their greatest hits. The concert season is ending on 15 July with a special surprise guest!
Six European film hits from the season programme will be screened on Saturdays in the MSU’s cinema Metropolis. There are two Scandinavian humour dramas, Homecoming (dir. Mika Kaurismaki) and Heaven on Earth (dir. Kay Pollak), followed by a British romance drama Love and Friendship (dir. Whit Stillman). The Croatian romance omnibus Because of you (dir. Anđelo Jurkas) will be screened on 1 July, followed by a French drama Everything that’s coming (dir. Mia Hansen-Love) a week later. The ‘Best of Metropolis’ programme will be concluded by one of the best-received films of the year, the French drama Elle (dir. Paul Verhoeven) with the remarkable Isabelle Huppert in the leading role.
Concert and cinema tickets include a visit to the exhibition ‘Braco Dimitrijević – A Retrospective’, that showcases the greatest works by one of the first distinguished conceptual artists in the world. To add to the art programme, MSU is organising a series of performances by Croatian artists, taking place every Saturday before the music shows. The pieces will differ in topics, all of them aiming to create a link between pop culture and contemporary art, providing a unique experience for the visitors.
