What’s summer without ice cream? We have no idea. Ok, admittedly, even bad ice cream is still ice cream, but getting that perfect scoop of icy goodness on a scorching summer day should be added to dictionaries, as a photo example of what happiness looks like.

Generous 8-kuna scoops and one of the best dark chocolate ice creams I have ever tasted and located just around the corner from Špica, in Masarykova. Creamy texture and a rich taste, it’s all you want a scoop of ice cream to be.

2) Na cesti b 041, Masarykova 25
Masarykova is a chocolate lover’s oasis: in addition to regular chocolate (which is yummy), at Na cesti b 041you can get chocolate-cinnamon or chocolate-chilli combinations, and they are guaranteed to make you love chocolate even more. You’ll enjoy the 10-kuna scoops even more in a great interior, filled with allusions to the cafe’s former history – it used to be a cult place to go out for all new wave lovers in the ‘80s.
3) Amélie, Vlaška 6
The shabby-chic interior of this charming place is well-known to anyone who likes sweets in Zagreb. Just a few steps away from Ban Jelačić Square and close to the Cathedral, you can get the best scoop of pistachio ice cream in town, for 10 kuna.

4) Orijent, Maksimirska 34
Even though it takes about 15 min to get there from the centre, this cake shop’s long tradition has gathered quite a fan base in the city. It’s a place where you can try some of the wonderfully strange, but also wonderfully delicious combinations, such as lemon, lavender and honey, or even beer. 8 kuna a scoop.

5) Cukeraj, Britanski trg 9
Cukeraj is a small and very cute pastry shop at Britanac run by a nutritionist, so you’re guaranteed to have an all-natural scoop of tasty ice cream. Try the fruit flavours, for example, raspberry, with pieces of fruit in it.
