More than 170,000 visitors decided that the Best Burger Award should go to Mason Burgers & Stuff from Istria.

Delicious burgers from Zagreb, Fažana, Pula, Split and Dubrovnik were tasted by more than 170,000 visitors during the eleven days of the Festival. The Festival has managed to prove that burgers, which used to be considered low-quality fast food, have turned into a gourmet meal, made using top ingredients, and the interest was extraordinary. Visitors, with many foreign tourists among them, waited patiently, even in the rain, and some of them danced at the concerts during the evening programme.

Visitors voted for their favourite burger during the Festival and they chose Mason Burgers & Stuff, a franchise from Istria which presented their original Špaleta burger at the Festival. The burger was created having in mind some of the traditional recipes that the owner wanted to bring back, using local ingredients. Špaleta is a traditional Eastern delicacy that rare people still prepare in Istria. In addition to the ingredients, it is special for its cooking method, the giravolta.

“Tradition is what keeps us at peace and gives us a sense of continuity in this ever-changing world, so I think we should all work a little harder to keep it. Špaleta, which can be tasted at Shipyard Pub in Pula represents not only Istria, but also Croatian cuisine on the global market. Thanks to the Festival marketing activities and the friendly media representatives, we have managed to present our work in the best possible way. Not only did it affect sales, but the recognisability of our brand on the new market as well. Mason is now famous around Croatia, which makes us extremely happy. Zagreb Burger Festival is an excellent place for promotion and having a good time. It has brought us new business opportunities with partners who would be willing to make gourmet burgers, and we will keep searching for those who will make it with love. We would like to spread to all major Croatian cities and offer burgers that are recognisable for their location-specific ingredients and as a top gourmet speciality,” said Ivan Zidar, owner of Mason.
