In just two weeks of Advent, the city of Zagreb has recorded excellent tourist results with phenomenal growth in both arrivals and overnight stays.

In comparison to last year, from 25 November to 11 December 2016, the number of arrivals this year have increased by 30 percent (52,430), while the number of overnight stays have increased by 41 percent (100,689). Growth has been achieved with both domestic and foreign tourists, with domestic tourism to Zagreb up 23 percent and foreign tourism up 34 percent, reports HRTurizam on 16 December 2016.

“For the first weekend of Advent, Zagreb attracted a large number of Zagreb citizens as well as tourists from around the world. The city was intensely alive and in the holiday mood throughout the evenings, however, it is quite clear that the holidays in Zagreb do last longer, and are carried out more intensely and more meaningfully,” says Martina Bienenfeld, director of the Zagreb Tourist Board.

Of the total overnight stays, domestic tourists accounted for 29,481 (17 percent increase) and foreign tourists accounted for 71,208 (54 percent increase). Most of the arrivals were from Croatia, Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Austria, Slovenia, Serbia, Germany, the United States, Great Britain, South Korea and other Asian countries.

Most overnights stays came from Croatia, Argentina, Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Austria, Serbia, the United States, Germany, Slovenia, Great Britain and Korea.
