The famous guitarist and singer is playing at Hard Place

The 8th edition of Zagreb International Blues Festival has a special treat for local blues fans this year: the legendary guitarist Guitar Shorty is coming to play in Zagreb!

Tonight, 27 May, he’ll be performing at Hard Place in Zagreb, starting at 9 PM.

Shorty was born in 1939 in Houston, Texas. He started playing as a kid and set off for a professional career in music at the age of 17. That’s when he got his famous nickname, as he was younger – and shorter – than everybody else in the orchestra he played at. One of their performance was visited by Willie Dixon who noticed young Shorty’s music skills and invited him to play on his record. Shorty played one guitar, Otis Rush played the other, and they recorded their first hit ‘Irma Lee’ in 1957.

Shorty was soon invited by Ray Charles to join his band, and then got another offer by Guitar Slim to play as the opening act on his tour. Shorty also played with Sam Cooke, touring around the US and ending up in Los Angeles where he recorded his first three hits.

After he moved to Seattle, Shorty continued to make new music, record multiple albums, playing at the biggest festivals and touring around the world. The show in Zagreb is a rare opportunity to hear the 77-year-old legend live in these parts – get your ticket for 80 kuna here or at Hard Place tonight, and enjoy the gig!
