In many countries of the world, June 21 is celebrated as World Music Day or Fête de la Musique. On that day, amateur musicians, but also professionals, perform various types of music for free in public spaces, reminding everyone of the importance of music in everyday life.
According to svjetskidanglazbe.com, the first celebration took place in France in 1976, when American musician Joel Cohen suggested celebrating music at an all-day event on June 21, or the summer solstice. The event has been spreading internationally ever since and, since 2005, more than one hundred countries participate in it every year.
The locations for this year’s Zagreb Edition of Fête de la Musique are the following:

Stop by these locations June 21, 5 p.m. – 10 p.m. and dance to some great tunes by professional and amateur musicians.
Another big music-related event, called Music and the City: Musical Fantasy will take place at Trg kralja Tomislava at 8:45 p.m.. Zagreb Symphony Orchestra, directed by Eduardo Strausser (Brazil), and Croatian Radiotelevision Choir, together with soloists Luka Ljubas and Evelin Novak, will perform a concert dedicated to fantastic stories and fables, ballets, operas, and pieces by Wagner, Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky, and other famous composers.
