Whisky Fair Returns to Zagreb

Total Croatia News

For the fourth year in a row, Plaza Event Centre will be hosting this grain-oriented celebration.

Whisky Fair Zagreb 2018 will take place on January 9th and 10th, in Plaza Event Centre in Slavonska Street, from 15:00 until 23:00.

Based on the experiences from the previous years, the organisers are expecting around 3000 whisky fans to be in attendance paying the entry fee of 75 kuna (early-bird prices are gone now, of course), for which they will be given a special Glencairn whisky glass.

All leading Croatian whisky importers and producers will be presenting their drinks at the fair, and you will be able to taste around 50 different labels – from the very well known ones, such as Jack Daniel’s to several Japanese whiskies. Complimenting those is the array of cocktails made with various whiskies, and the prices which have been published thus far show that single shots (0.02 per shot!) will be priced at around 50 kuna.

The organisers have again worked hard to help educate the interested public, so there will be numerous workshops, lectures and masterclasses organized during those two days, and tastings will be included in the workshops. The “basic” workshops will be on introduction to American Whiskey and an introduction to Scotish Whisky (yes, tyvm, I Googled the difference between “whisky” and “whiskey” just to make sure when one is used, and when the other). Masterclasses will present the Kavalan distillery, Whisky forensics, various sherries (not whisky!), Campbelltown distilleries and the last one is called “Court Games”, not quite sure what that one is about – but it sure sounds interesting! Ted Lelekas, Moët Hennessy Brand Ambasador for Central and Eastern Europe will also hold a lecture on Friday night.

Entry fee for the workshops is 180 kuna (and that includes the basic fair entry, as well as the glass), and the entry for the masterclasses is 320 kuna (also, basics are included). Obviously, you have to be able to show that you’ve turned 18 to be able to enter the fair and taste whiskies there. There’s a VIP vault organised at the fair as well, with the fee of 1500 kuna, which will offer you some sense of exclusivity, some extremely rare whiskies not offered to the “general public”, whisky guru ready to answer any questions, selection of cigars etc.
