Bundek and Jarun

If the weather is nice, don’t miss these two lakes in Zagreb. People go there to jog, or simply relax in these oases in the city. There are many people barbecuing here over the weekend and on holidays as well. Bring some bread with you and feed the swans, the kids are going to love it.

Jarun is a big sports and leisure centre where you can row, paddle, sail, surf, swim, jog, bike, roller skate, and skateboard. There are two lakes with six islands, surrounded by pebble beaches where you can walk or sit and enjoy the magnificent view. In addition to all the sports activities, there are several cafés where you can sit and relax.

The quality of water is checked regularly, and the water temperature over the summer reaches 24 °C, so people go swimming and sunbathing here. There are also lifeguards, so you can be carefree and enjoy the Zagreb Sea, as people call it.
Jarun is a diverse animal habitat as well – there are 130 species of birds and 29 species of fish here.

You can get to Jarun by catching trams 5 or 17 (direction Prečko) and getting off at Jarun stop.

Bundek is also a sports and leisure centre with two lakes, but it is smaller than Jarun, and also closer to the centre. Similar to Jarun, you can bike and roller skate here, there are various places for barbecue, as well as a few playgrounds. The water is also safe to swim, and there are lifeguards taking care of the swimmers’ safety.

There are various events taking place here in the summer, like Bundekfest, a music festival, or a fireworks festival.

You can get to Bundek by taking a bus from the Main Railway Station (lines 220, 221, 234, or 268) and getting off at Bundek. If you take trams 7 or 14 (direction Zapruđe), get off at Muzej suvremene umjetnosti stop (Museum of Contemporary Art), or if you take tram 6 (direction Sopot), get off at Sopot. If you take the tram, you have to pass the Museum of Contemporary Art, and then walk for some 10 min until you get to Bundek.
