20th Prix Marulic Festival This Year

The 20th International radio festival – Prix Marulic will take place in Hvar town from May 21 to 27, 2016. Although it was announced that the festival will not take place this year, according to tportal.hr and to the delight of many fans and participant from around the world, the Croatian Radio&Television managed to find a way to continue the festival.

 

Prix Marulic festival with the under-title “Old Texts Revisited” started in 1997 and is dedicated to the texts and topics created up to the year 1921. As a speciality, the festival is taking place in cultural and historical sites in Hvar town, like the Franciscan monastery, the Garden of the Hanibal Lucic Summer Residence and the ruins of the Church of St. Mark.

 

During the nineteen years of the festival, more than ninety radio stations and independent producers from forty-four countries participated. Along with everyday discussions about the programme, 771 so far, the festival has a rich additional programme like evenings of the author´s nights of the most respected broadcasters, concerts and performances.

 

The open discussions and exchanges of experience involving all participants are an important part of the festival, because this way, everyone is playing an active role in selection of the winning entries.

“Traditionally, at Prix Marulic radio experts from around the world gather and represent their work based on the world´s cultural heritage. The intention of the festival is to encourage genuine radio-expression where tradition is the template, starting point and challenge. Thus, all radio forms based on ancient texts and intangible cultural heritage created until 1921, when the first radio play was broatcasted are welcome at the festival”, said the artistic director of the festival Stephanie Jamnicky.
