A New Wine Event for Zagreb: Grand Tasting in Lauba

Zagreb’s expanding wine scene welcomes a new event, according to a press release on February 16, 2016.

Walk around tasting – Grand Tasting – is a part of Vinart’s Wine February, an event that includes a series of happenings in the second part of February in Zagreb.

During the Grand Tasting in Lauba you will be able to taste all sorts of different and rare wines from a 100 or so selected wineries, on Saturday the 27th from 13:00 till 20:00 and on Sunday the 28th from 13:00 till 19:00. So it will be that Lauba – a home for people and art – will briefly turn into “a home for people, art and wine” during the last weekend of February. The organizer – Vinart d.o.o. – is making sure that all the wines are available for purchasing in the “Pop-Up Wine Shop” in Lauba. As an adequate “warm-up” Vinart is organizing a series of workshops and themed tastings in hotels Sheraton and Antunović and in the Lauba bistro.

If your mingling often gets accompanied by wine, this is the event not to be missed. Walk around tasting of some rare and outstanding wines coming from a selected 100 wineries from Croatia and neighbouring countries, some of which are a novelty for Croatian market, will be held on Saturday and Sunday 27th and 28th of February in Lauba, on 23a, Barun Filipović street. Afer you’ve tasted something you like, you will be able to buy it in a „Pop-Up Wine Shop“, also in Lauba, which comes very handy for all those hard to get wines, or those that are simply not on the shelves in Croatian stores.

Among the wineries aiming to impress you with some special labels are: Korak, Tomac, Šember, Ivančić, Degrassi, Coronica, Kozlović, Clai, Benvenuti, Matošević, Kabola, Dobravac, Cuj, Gracin, Bibich, Vuina, Stina, Senjković, Bura, Mare, Grgić, Boškinac, Saints Hills, Skaramuča, Bire, Rizman, Krajančić, Krauthaker, Dvanajščak-Kozol, Štampar, Bolfan, Adžić, Galić, Batič, Tement, Grosss, Meitz, Cloudy Bay, Gobelsburg and nearly sixty others.

Some of the exhibitors are yet to find their dedicated distributor for Croatian market, which is the reason the event is being held at the time of the year when wine professionals still weigh their odds and pick and choose who they are going to work with. Besides wine merchants, sommeliers and caterers and both electronic and printed media representatives, walk around tasting should attract sincere wine enthusiasts, especially the pickiest ones who are always trying to expand their knowledge on wine regions.

As an overture of a sort, for the walk around tasting, a series of wine workshops are taking place. In Hotel Sheraton and Hotel Antunović on 19th 20th 25th 26th and 28th of February themed tastings will be held concerning Burgundy, Macedonian Vranac, wines from Komarna and Graševina from A to Z. Among the selected subjects are Sherry, Madeira, Marsala, the bubbles of Krug and Ruinart, stiles of Champagne workshop, aged Istrian Malvasia and biodynamic wines. Audience will enjoy wines of Piedmont, Riesling from Mosel, Mediterranean wines, some surprises from Bregovita Hrvatska (continental part of Croatia) ending with vertical tasting of Austrian Sauvignon Blanc on Sunday in Bistro Lauba restaurant. Among the lecturers we find prof. Edi Maletić, and prof. Ivan Pejić, Željko Bročilović, Ivo Kozarčanin, Saša Špiranec, Mario Meštrović, Leo Gracin, Rene Bakalović, Jelena Šimić Valentić, Nenad Trifunović, Sandi Paris, Emil I Karin Perdec and many others.

Walk around tasting entry fee is 100kn. Winemakers will introduce their own wines making this an opportunity to get to know your favourite winemakers.
Bistro Lauba is taking care of food; with a daily menu and some quick bites on the go, under the culinary baton of chef Zdravko Marić, you’ll be able to sit down, replenish your stocks and of you go for a new round of wine tasting.
