One of the true gems of the Jelsa region is the abandoned shepherd’s village of Humac, which lies some 6km east of the town. Regarded as the best eco-ethno village in Dalmatia, there is no water, electricity or inhabitants in Humac, but the atmosphere is enticing, and the food at Konoba Humac (prepared without electricity or running water) is delicious. You can stay here – contact www.murvica.net for more – and having an entire village in sublime nature, including an outdoor shower facing the Adriatic through bushes of lavender, is a unique experience. 

Last year, the new and VERY energetic Sustainable Island NGO organised the first Hvar Etno Festival in Humac – you can see last year’s programme below to give you a flavour. It was a smash hit, and check out the Hvar TV video report below on last year’s event. 

This year’s festival has just been announced – July 8, starting at 17:00, with transport from Jelsa provided. More info on the Facebook event page.

19:30/20:00 Main square: Presentation of traditional gastronomy and local wines tasting by Radovan Marčić (MasterChef), live music by Traditional singers from Vrisnik

20:00 In front of souvenir shop: Through study visit to the island of Hvar, the EU parliamentarian Davor Škrlec with LAG Škoji representative Adela Duboković, will be available to visitors on “the European 2020 strategy for sustainable development of Croatian islands” during the debate within the informal character of the program of the Festival

21:00 Main square Presentation of book and documetary movie “Ja, Mate svjetski” by Stipe Božić and Kino Mediterranean

22:00 After the movie Local singers from Vrisnik, who celebrate 10 year of existence this year, will have a small concert, continued by local live music in Dalmatian mood…
